At the end of the 19th century
Martinique’s sugar factories closed one by one. In 1882, Amédée Aubéry bought Saint-Étienne and transformed the sugar factory into an agricultural distillery. During this venture, he modernized and expanded the distillery.
In 1909, the Simonnet family bought the distillery and c level executive list continued to develop its business until 1980. Like many distilleries, Saint-Étienne suffered from the mainland’s loss of love for rum in the 1970s and 1980s.
